The Story So Far

Rocky Mountain minstrel Joal Kamps is a homegrown free spirit. Named after his grandfathers John and Albert, who both immigrated from the Netherlands as young men, adventure is in his blood – and it is very apparent.

Kamps spent four years traveling the world before he settled into his folk-pop storytelling in song. Drawing from his globetrotting background and utilizing his European work ethic, Kamps has accomplished more in the last three years than most bands accomplish in a decade: he has written, recorded, produced and independently released three studio albums; signed a North American distribution agreement; received a career development grant; completed numerous tours across Western Canada; and has been invited to, and performed at, many music festivals and conferences in the United States, Europe and Canada – all as a self-taught independent artist no less!

Joal currently resides in Calgary, Alberta – located just East of the Canadian Rockies, where he finds inspiration for his music – and coincidentally, camps! He spends his free-time hiking in search of the next great swimming hole, or recharging his creative spirit beneath the boughs of a white spruce – guitar and songbook always within arms reach.
